EquiMania! Quiz Challenge a Huge Success!March 2006

Can-Am Equine Emporium, London, Ontario, March 18, 2006… The crowd filled the arena at the Agriplex to watch Amanda Murdoch win top score in her age category and also top overall score in the second annual Equimania! Quiz Challenge.

The EquiMania! Quiz Challenge was held at the Can-Am Equine Equine Emporium, the largest education and trade show event in Ontario, and is part of Equine Guelph's youth education program that also includes an interactive website, www.equimania.ca and Education Centre. Questions about horse care and health tested the knowledge of the young horse enthusiasts and awards were given out for top marks in the four age categories.

New this year – the Team Challenge; The Horse Riders (Jessica Hyenhuis, Taiya Timmermans, Jocelyn McDonald and Nicole Martin) edged out the Legally Blondes (Tara Chambers, Amanda Mummery, Karly Zelaska and Meagan Zelaska) for first place.

The EquiMania! Youth Education Program endeavours to encourage and empower young people to begin their own pathway of learning. Our overall champion, Amanda, took the quiz challenge in 2005, continued to study for the year and was even more succesful in 2006. "The response that we have had from youth and their parents has been rewarding and in some cases profoundly moving. According to several parents, the EquiMania! program has touched our youth in many ways, including motivating them to study for the quiz, awakening a new confidence and focus on horses in others, along with having a great time!" explained Gayle Ecker, Senior Manager of Equine Guelph. "Some participants have told us that they are now saving up their allowance to buy a horse and others are determined to study hard for next year's quiz!"

EquiMania!'s Education Centre is hitting the road with scheduled stops this summer at the Schomberg Fair (May 27), Woodbine Racetrack, (weekends through July and August) and Grand River Raceway (August 7).
