Equine Guelph understands that horse people are busy people! That’s why we have created programs that provide quick, effective learning on hot topics. Participants will leave the 2-3 week short course armed with practical – even essential – information for the well-being of you and your horse.
Designed for: Any busy horse enthusiast interested in learning the latest evidence-based information available on important issues affecting the horse. (note: at least 16 years of age)

Horse Behaviour and Safety

Designed for people who are interested in best practices in Safety around both horse and farm.

 

  • Winter 2018

Gut Health & Colic Prevention

Designed for individuals that want to reduce the risk of colic in their own horse or horses they care for by increasing their knowledge of risk factors and preventative management strategies.   • Winter 2018

Equine Biosecurity - Canada's standard

Based on the new Biosecurity standard, this course will provide the knowledge necessary to decrease the risk of infectious disease in their own horse or horses they care for.   • Winter 2017*

Equine Welfare - Canada's Code

Based on the Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Equines, this course considers horse welfare in terms of the Five Freedoms. A must for all horse caregivers.   • Winter 2017*

Note: The Ontario Equestrian Federation will notify its members when registration is open for special OEF course offering.

Time Requirements:

Occurs over a 2-3 week period

15 – 20 hour time commitment is required during this period

No set times to be online each week

Recommended you visit the course site at least 5 times a week, preferably once or more each day

Course is entirely online, so travel to the University of Guelph is NOT required

Assessment Methods:

Assignment (not graded, but recommended for personal achievement and required for certificate of completion)

Materials:

All materials are provided online within course site

Prerequisites:

At least 18 years of age

Coaching Credits:

Equestrian Canada recognizes Equine Guelph courses as qualifying for credit on the Professional Development Grid for both Western and English Coaches

Participants receive 3 points of Equestrian Canada NCCP Coach/Instructor professional development activities updating hours per course

When requested by the student, the U of G Office of Open Learning & Technical Support will supply a certificate or letter of participation which verifies attendance/participation

Cancellation Policy:

Registered participants who wish to withdraw from a course must inform Open Learning and Educational Support in writing. Refunds, less a $40.00 administration fee per course will be issued provided written notification. In order to receive a refund less a $40.00 administration fee per course, the form must be received by end of business day (EST) on the Friday prior to the commencement of the course.
